Description

Red Bean Paste Steamed Buns are a classic treat featuring a soft and fluffy steamed bun filled with sweet red bean paste. These buns are perfect for breakfast, snacks, or as a dessert, offering a delicious and satisfying bite that is both comforting and flavorful.

The dough for the steamed buns is made from a mixture of flour, yeast, sugar, and water, kneaded until smooth and elastic. The dough is allowed to rise until doubled in size, then divided into small portions and filled with sweet red bean paste made from cooked adzuki beans and sugar.

The filled buns are shaped into smooth rounds and placed in a steamer to cook until they are soft, fluffy, and cooked through. The result is a bun with a light and tender exterior and a sweet, creamy red bean filling.

Red Bean Paste Steamed Buns can be enjoyed plain or with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added texture. They are perfect for any time of day and are a popular choice for dim sum or afternoon tea.

These buns are loved for their soft texture and the sweet, rich flavor of the red bean paste, making them a favorite among those who enjoy traditional Asian desserts.

Instructions

  1. Whisk all the ingredients in a stand mixer until all the ingredients come together and form a dough ball.

  2. Take the dough out of the stand mixer bowl, and knead by hand until it gains a smooth surface.
Set the dough in a clean bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise until doubled in size.

  3. Knead the dough by hand to get rid of the air inside the dough. Divide the dough into 8 pieces and roll into balls.

  4. Flatten the dough balls, add the red bean paste as filling, and seal it up.

  5. Let them set for 20 minutes.

  6. Set the buns in a pot with water. Heat until water boil, reduce to heat to medium, and steam the buns for 15 minutes. Turn off the heat; let the buns set for another 5 minutes.

  7. Remove the lid and let buns cool until safe to touch.
