Description

Sesame Steamed Buns are a delightful and traditional Asian treat featuring soft and fluffy buns filled with a sweet sesame paste. These buns are perfect for breakfast, snacks, or as a dessert, offering a comforting and flavorful bite that is both satisfying and delicious.

The dough for the steamed buns is made from a mixture of flour, yeast, sugar, and water, kneaded until smooth and elastic. The dough is allowed to rise until doubled in size, then divided into small portions and filled with a sweet sesame paste made from ground sesame seeds and sugar.

The filled buns are shaped into smooth rounds and placed in a steamer to cook until they are soft, fluffy, and cooked through. The result is a bun with a light and tender exterior and a sweet, creamy sesame filling.

Sesame Steamed Buns can be enjoyed plain or with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added texture. They are perfect for any time of day and are a popular choice for dim sum or afternoon tea.

These buns are loved for their soft texture and the sweet, rich flavor of the sesame paste, making them a favorite among those who enjoy traditional desserts.

Instructions

  1. In a clean bowl, mix well all-purpose flour, instant yeast, sugar, black sesame powder. Add in water, mix and knead until a dough ball forms. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest for 20 minutes.

  1. In a pot, bring together black sesame powder, chopped peanuts, sugar, lard/unsalted butter and water, mix over medium-low heat until well combined. Mix well glutinous rice flour and water, add into the pot, mix well. Soften the gelatin, add into the pot and mix well. Keep mixing until thickened. Transfer into a clean bowl, set aside.

  1. Divide the dough into 10 pieces (about 40g each). Knead each smooth and roll into small dough balls. Roll each dough ball into round sheets (make the middle of the sheets thicker than the sides).

  1. Assemble the buns. Add in 30 to 35g filling in the middle, wrap it up and seal the edges. Place it on a small piece of parchment paper. Grab a wok, add in some water, heat until boil, off heat, put in a steam plate, let the buns rise in the wok until 1.5 times bigger.

  1. Heat the water until boil, put on the lid, and let cook for 10 minutes. Off heat and let the buns stay in the wok for 3 minutes. Take them out, let cool and serve.
